The Coherence Drive™
When uncertainty makes it harder to let go.
The Coherence Drive™ describes the mind’s drive to make sense of an emotionally significant experience that feels unresolved, contradictory, or incomplete.
When someone’s words and actions don’t match, a relationship ends without clarity, or something simply doesn’t make sense, we may continue thinking about the connection—not only because we miss the person, but because our mind is still trying to resolve the ambiguity and create a coherent story.
This can make unanswered relationships especially difficult to release.
The framework shifts the question from:
“Why can’t I stop thinking about this person?”
to:
“Am I longing for the person—or am I still trying to solve what never made sense?”
The Coherence Drive™ was developed by Rachel Oliver, MSW, RSW, creator of The Modern Love Method™.
